I trust everyone is enjoying a nice summer (or for our friends on the other side of the world, a nice winter!). I am a Southern California girl and I love the summer (it's in my DNA). Any chance to enjoy a nice meal outside is a real treat for me and couldn't make me happier. Throw in some good friends and conversation and all the better!
I spent part of the weekend working on the seating chart for my step-son's Rehearsal Dinner (using AutoCAD of course). I whipped up a couple of LISP routines to get my job done faster and I realized how fortunate I was to have learned AutoLISP early on. For those of you who have yet to learn this fairly simple programming language I highly recommend it. There are a few Autodesk University classes that anyone can watch (for free) focused on AutoLISP such as Dan Abbott's class called AutoLISP by Example. If you haven't signed up for AUONLINE, you'll have to do so - but it is worth it for all of the free courses you can attend!
Now on to an AutoCAD Hip Tip on Listing Nested XREF Layers:
I recently forgot all about the very cool XLIST command, and a fellow Tweep (Mr. Jackson) was kind enough to remind me. If you've ever wanted to quickly find out information on a nested XREF object - the Express Tool XLIST will do the trick!
Simply execute the XLIST command and select the intended object. Don't expect the object to highlight - you just have to go with the Force and believe.
After selecting an object on the screen, AutoCAD will display a simple dialog box containing valuable information on the selected object as seen below.
You can continue to pick all of the nested objects you want in XLIST. Definitely the fasted way to find all the info you might need!
