A few of you out there in Autodesk Map 3D land have not been pleased with the changes to the status bar in Map 3D 2007. If you rely on the status bar for controlling the ortho, snap, osnap, polar, etc then you've definitely missed this ability in the latest release. James Maeding(super user) recently sent me an email pointing out the fix posted up on the Autodesk Discussion Groups (there's all kinds of cool things lurking in the discussion groups!). You'll really miss the status bar if you're new to the 3D features in AutoCAD 2007 because you won't have the nifty DUCS button to turn on...
AutoCAD Hip Tip to return to the AutoCAD 2006 Status Bar (Autodesk Map 3D 2007 only):
To set the Autodesk Map 3D back to the default AutoCAD status bar do the
following:
1. Exit Autodesk Map 3D.
2. Open the Windows Registry Editor.
(Next you'll find the warning that must be posted so we don't get intro trouble)
Warning! Problems caused by improperly editing the Windows registry could
render your computer operating system unusable. Microsoft provides a wealth
of critical information that you need to know about the registry in the
Microsoft Knowledge Base.
Use the Microsoft® Registry Editor only at your own risk and only after
backing up the registry as well as the system.dat and user.dat files as
outlined for your operating system in the Microsoft Knowledge Base and in
the related Autodesk solution,
http://support.autodesk.com/getdoc.asp?id=TS66513. Additional information
about the registry is also contained in the Help topics in the Microsoft
Registry Editor.
(Scared yet?)
3. Go to
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Autodesk\AutoCAD\R17.0\ACAD-5002:xyz\Application s\AcMap
(where xyz are numbers and characters that vary depending on the installed
language version of Autodesk Map 3D).
4. Select AcMap and do a right click > New > DWORD Value.
5. Rename the newly created value to Statusbar.
6. As value enter 0.
7. Exit the Windows Registry Editor and launch Map.
To load the Autodesk Map 3D status bar instead of the AutoCAD one, set the
Statusbar value to 1.
Note: You can't switch between the Autodesk Map 3D and AutoCAD status bar on the fly when Autodesk Map 3D is running...(hence...Step #1)
Okay look...I didn't say it would be easy...Thanks James - you rock!
And I leave you with a recent picture of the puppy...because you'll need a happy picture to look at after you've nervously changed the Windows Reg file. : )
