I often order oatmeal for breakfast...I admit it...and whenever I order oatmeal I always receive a little pitcher of milk to pour on it. A recent trip to the Hotel Monaco Denver has me wondering if milk is the norm or an anomaly...let me explain...
Hotel Monaco's, in general, are wonderful hotels. The decor is fabulous, they have a nice social happy hour with complimentary wines, and they are a pet friendly hotel. In fact, if you don't bring your own pet - they will furnish one for you and deliver a fish to your room - now it doesn't get much better than that!
This past week I stayed in the Hotel Monaco Denver for one night. I arrived so late they put me in the Grace Slick suite because they ran out of the budget room I reserved...fabulous! It was great - the world was a beautiful place - etc...until the morning...
I had so much work to get done before I took off for my presentation that I ordered room service - oatmeal of course...and I was shocked to have it delivered without milk. The guy who delivered my oatmeal treated me like I was some insane milk addict when I asked where the milk was..."we never serve milk with our oatmeal!" he told me indignantly. I replied with "I've never been served oatmeal without milk!". It's not like I was asking for ketchup for a filet mignon - it was just oatmeal!
So he promised to bring me some milk (a simple request) as he indignantly left. Twenty (20) minutes later he returned with my milk. Yes...20 minutes! Have you ever had cold oatmeal? yuck-yuck...am I right? I told him that now my oatmeal was cold - to which he retorted with "Oh well", handed me my milk and walked off...
So I ate my horribly cold Elmer's Glue oatmeal, with my milk (making it even colder), because I needed something to hold me over until after my presentation...it wasn't pretty...so the real question here is...
Do you put milk on your oatmeal?
Enjoy your weekend...and ponder this for me - okay?
