Well the Super Bowl is right around the corner and the AUGI Board will be joining me this year for a Super Bowl party! How fun is that? I'm looking forward to enjoying a great time with this fantastic group of people as we root for our favorite teams (although I suspect that Bill Adams from Australia may not have a favorite team). Who am I rooting for? The Giants of course. If Peyton can't make it to the Super Bowl I can certainly root for Eli. And don't you think that Tom Brady has plenty of Super Bowl rings already? Besides...it's always more fun to root for the underdog.
My Autodesk Inventor instructor, Scott Oshita, sent me a cool email letting me know that the Mechanical horse he built in Inventor is going to be in two Super Bowl commercials! Way to go Scotty-O! It's going to be in a Vitamin Water commercial with Shaq and a horse race and an Amp Power Drink spot with Dale Earnhardt Jr. In the second commercial the horse is covered with a camel skin. So keep your eyes peeled for these two commercials!
An AutoCAD Hip Tip to SERIOUSLY Delete even stubborn layers:
I've had a couple of people ask me recently how to purge/delete a layer that refuses to remove itself from their lives. You know what I mean...you turn off all of the other layers, you check for any entities on this stubborn layer (can't see anything!) and yet it just won't go away! Chances are this layer is referenced in a block, or an old dimension, or some other obscure way and consequently it doesn't see itself as being totally empty. And we all know that if a layer isn't empty or is referenced some place you don't stand a chance of purging it!
Enter the fabulous LAYDEL command! This former Express Tool grew up and became a real live command a couple of releases ago (which means our LT friends can utilize it as well). This super sonic command will be happy to delete a layer regardless of what is on it! In fact - if you the layer is referenced in a block definition it will open up that block...rip out the layer...and redefine the block right there on the fly - imagine that!
Remember though...where there is power there is danger! (so please keep that in mind).
The wonderful Bill Fane once sent me an email detailing all of the possible conditions that might keep you from deleting a layer (a classic for sure). I don't remember all the reasons, but I do remember one of my favorites...if someone created a text string made up only of spaces...you couldn't see it - but it would still be an object on that layer! Very clever!
